Postcards from Santorini

Managed to make a real escape from the rat race for a few days to enjoy good food, fantastic scenery and even climbed an active volcano!! Santorini was so picturesque...the hardest part is selecting which photos to upload...

For any would be travellers, this is sure one place to put top on the list. My recommendation would be to get a hotel overlooking the Caldera in or near the main towns of Oia or Fira, catch the sunset in Oia (will have to come back someday as late September is supposedly the best time for sunsets according to the locals), take a cruise to Nea Kameni and walk around the active volcanic crater, and top it off with eating lots of souvlaki and fresh greek salads.

Stopping by for just under a day in Athens was more than sufficient to visit the Acropolis perched high in the centre of town. It took a bit of effort to climb in the heat, even in early Spring, but every bit worth it to do once (or twice in my case) just to see what the glory of the Parthenon is all about. There is also the Temple of Athena Nike and a fantastic view of Athens including what's left of the Temple of Olypian Zeus to be seen.
